Karen started painting in 1973, in Ballantine, Montana, after a wonderful friend, Frances Abney, gave her the most thoughtful gift: a class in pastels. It was just after her third child was born, and Frances even babysat while Karen attended the painting class each week! It was such great therapy for the postpartum doldrums. Most of all, it opened the door of inspiration. Throughout the years, when time and circumstance allowed, Karen always returned to painting in some measure. Her mother also started painting, and it is a fond memory to ponder the times the two collaborated on their artwork or attended art classes together.
Karen's painting friends and mentors in this art community are outstanding artists and great encouragers. She has lived in the Branson West and Kimberling City area of Missouri for the last 23 years.
